Treadmill at Midnight

Date: 5/15/2013
Starting Weight: 205.4
Current Weight: 200.8
Ultimate Goal: 160

Well, it's 12:26am (on Thursday) and I just got off the treadmill a few minutes ago.  I had cakes due yesterday and today (which is really rare mid-week) so I've just had a terrible routine/schedule.  Today I couldn't fit in a walk with Ashley because I had to go deliver the cake then run several errands in town.

But I got home, completed a post for CakeJournal.com that was due today, then at 11:40pm or so, decided to get on the treadmill.  I didn't stay on long - but I did complete Week 6, Day 3 of C25K.   I'm glad I did it, but really, I don't recommend the treadmill at midnight.  It's a real bummer!

I used my foot pod (for the first time) with my Garmin to track my workout.  I haven't been to a track to calibrate it, but if it's accurate, my treadmill is way off... as in my Garmin said I jogged 2 miles... my treadmill said 2.25 miles.  A quarter of a mile is a lot to this girl!

Anywho... I didn't drink nearly enough water today, eat anything great or horrible, or do anything else interesting, so I'm gonna hit the shower and bed.  The rest of my week is gonna be busy, busy!!

Until next time...

The Past 7 Days

Date: 5/14/2013
Starting Weight: 205.4
Current Weight: 201.6
Ultimate Goal: 160

Has it really been a week since I posted?  Wow - I had no idea!

But really, the past 7 days have been a roller coaster like I haven't been on in awhile.  I had 5 cakes plus a smash cake last week... and while that sounds like "too much", I've done as many as 10 cakes in a week so it really shouldn't have been that bad.

Boy was I wrong.  Between having crystallized sugar from Sam's club that ruined a huge batch of frosting to humidity that made fondant-making 10x harder than usual to finally a nightmare cake disaster on Saturday (my worst ever) that really made me want to quit cakes altogether.... let's just say, I had a very, very bad week.

But then Saturday evening my husband made me chocolate dipped strawberries and took me out to eat which was wonderful.  Well mostly... I was still crying over my cake disaster on and off all night and for the next few days.

Then on Sunday we spent the day with family and enjoying the beautiful weather and I tried to avoid the computer all together. Yesterday I actually started a post here but never finished it because I was out all day for a dentist appointment, shopping, and several other errands.   It was not a fun day - but it was necessary.

And now it's Tuesday... and you're all caught up!

Now - on to why I write this blog.  In the past week, my weight has fluctuated slightly and I haven't eaten very well (holidays and stressful days do not lead to healthy eating for me), but I've managed to stay around 201-202 most days (not all!) and keep my "trend" going down (that's a one month chart above).  I'm sad that I still haven't gotten below 200, but I'm not giving up!

As for walking/jogging, we've moved forward from Week 5, Day 2 of C25K to Week 6, Day 2 of C25K   Whoop-whoop!  By the way, we = me and Ashley.    I need to get a picture of me and her together to share with you.

And I'm loving my Garmin with the heart monitor.   I love that it gives me an accurate calorie burn and I can track/analyze so many aspects of my exercise.  And I've even managed to keep it charged so that it's always ready to go!

Now... off to do some cake work.  Until next time...

Happy Dance

Date: 5/7/2013
Starting Weight: 205.4
Current Weight: 201.2
Ultimate Goal: 160

I got on the scales 3 times this morning to be sure that number was right!   I was doing a happy dance :)  It's not less than 200, but I'm getting sooooo close.

But then I had sort of a bad day with eating... I spent the morning helping my Daddy work on his computer and I ate and ate and ate BBQ chips while hanging out at his house.  Then I had chocolate and cookies and well... it was just a bad day with food.  Tonight hasn't been so bad (I actually never ate supper), but I also haven't finished cake work and may be up for several more hours.  That means I'll probably cave and eat something sometime tonight and I doubt it'll be a salad ;)

On the upside, Ashley and I went walking/jogging!  We did Week 5, Day 2 of C25K and I lived.  I didn't love it, but I lived.    However, I'm really worried about the Day 3... it's the day that kept me from ever completing C25K.  It involves 20 minutes of running (jogging)... yikes!  I'll never understand why this app takes you from 5 minute runs (day 1) to 8 minute runs (day 2) to 20 minute runs (day 3)  in ONE WEEK (week 5).

Overall, we were out for an hour and 2 minutes and our total distance (including C25K) was 3.6 miles.   According to my Garmin  I burned 400 calories.  Whoop-whoop!

So, I'm off to do cake work.  Until next time...

Lots of Apps

Date: 5/7/2013
Starting Weight: 205.4
Current Weight: 202.8
Ultimate Goal: 160

{Warning... Long post ahead}

I was loving that weight number this morning! It's been more than 3 years since I was below 200 pounds and every time I get close, something happens to throw me off track! I really hope this time is different and maybe next week I can get below the big two-zero-zero!

I'm also updating my weight in MyFitnessPal so my little widget over there will reflect my progress (but it's showing 9 pounds lost since I started using the app last year... I've really only lost about 3 pounds in the past 3 weeks since I started tracking again here). Wow... 9 pounds in a year is embarrassing and sad and pitiful. Ahhh... moving on before I get discouraged.

I'm sitting here thinking... I use so many walking/running/calorie apps that I can't keep up with them all. Maybe I should re-evaluate!

I've been using the CardioTrainer app (on my Android phone) for several weeks and as of last week, also using GarminConnect to track my walks/jogs with GPS so they're more accurate.

I use (or had been using) the MyFitnessPal app to track my eating and exercising and weight loss/gain. I like it because it has a great catalog of foods/calories already in the database, I can also use it on my computer if I don't want to fool with logging/tracking on my phone and you can add friends and encourage each other, watch each others progress, etc. and it has that neat widget I can install on my blog (over there on the right if you're reading on my page). The problem... I don't use it regularly!

And then we (Ashley & I) have been using the C25K app to try and work up to running a 5K. I've previously mentioned... I sort of hate running, but the app is really great if you're wanting to train to run a 5K.

And then there's PhysicsDiet.com. It's not an app... but for some reason I'm addicted to the little chart that it generates for weight tracking. This is my chart for the past 3 weeks since I started blogging again here. I guess it's good that my overall trend is down, but I really wish I could be more consistent!

Aaaah, and I just realized, I never shared that I got a Garmin Forerunner 305. I've wanted one for probably 2 years and I always talked myself out of it. Well, a few weeks ago I decided to go for it and get one! I couldn't muster the umph to pay full price, so I decided to get a refurb from eBay. It was about half the "new" price and it still comes with a 1 year warranty.

So far I love it - except I have got to get into the habit of charging it - it died when Ashley and I were out yesterday because I forgot to charge it after the first time I used it.   think I left it on so the battery was super low when we started :-( !!

But today it was charged and ready and I used it!  Here's my little chart thingy (I'm oh-so-technical!)....

And here's my post from CardioTrainer:

That walk included Week 5, Day 1 of C25K!   Week 5 is when I quit last time but I'm counting on Ashley to keep me going this time around ;)

PS - the calorie count is from the Garmin (I have the heart rate monitor strap) It takes into account my height, weight and heart rate... so I'm assuming (hoping) it's more accurate.  I have to adjust the numbers on CardioTrainer (it read about 460ish calories).

So, I just got in from that... I'm gonna get a shower, cook supper and fold laundry!

Until next time...

Exhausted

Date: 5/6/2013
Starting Weight: 205.4
Current Weight:203.2
Ultimate Goal: 160

Yesterday my weight was 204.0 but I forgot to post yesterday.   Today was back down a little which is a miracle considering I laid around and ate junk all day.

I've been so exhausted lately, day in and day out, tired all. the. time. and it never goes away. I think I need a break from cake and homeschooling and well.... everything, but I see no way to do that.

With 6 kids in the house, the laundry and dishes are always there.  Homeschooling is non-stop for us too.   And because I book cakes 2-3 months in advance, by the time I realize I need a break, I cant' take one for at least several weeks.  Maybe right now I'll stop taking orders for July and August so I can rest then.  Ha!

Just out of curiosity, I went and checked and I already have 18 cakes booked for those 2 months.  Oh well... I guess I won't rest then either.

Anywho.  Today Ashley and I did C25K Week 4, Day 3 (I think - she does it on her phone so I don't keep up with it as much).   We started by walking almost 2.5 miles then did the walking/jogging plan on the way home.  Our total was 4.93 miles... whoo-hoo!

After that, we had tacos for supper and watched The Voice.... that was the rest of my evening... and I forgot to post this ;)

Until next time...

Race Coordinator Success

Date: 5/4/2013
Starting Weight: 205.4
Current Weight:??
Ultimate Goal: 160

Well... my day started around 5:30am and once again, I forgot to get on the scales.  I just don't process well that early in the morning!

Today was the Fundraiser 5K for our youth group at church.... and I was the "race coordinator" (apparently)!   Like I told you yesterday, I felt so much like a fish out of water with that title.  I've never even ran a 5K all the way through so organizing one made me feel sort of like a poser.

But I did it... about 6 weeks ago I started putting everything together and with the help of tons of friends and family from church - we pulled it off today!   We had a good crowd and I think it was a success!

Because I was sorta kinda in charge (NOT!), I didn't participate in the 5K, but I did do the 1 mile fun run at the end with Ashley!  It was fun (again... sort of), but I pushed too hard and I'm so sore tonight (on top of already being sore from falling down the night before)... I probably won't be able to stand up in the morning!

After the 5K, the rest of the day was lots of fun too.  I had lunch with my friend Amy, Ashley and some of Ashley's family.   There, I had a piece of "Swamp Pizza" and a few cheesy breadsticks!!

Well, we pretended it was "appetizers" because we left there, did some shopping (in another town) then ate again!!   While I'll probably not like the number on the scales when I get back on, I don't regret it one bit!   It was fun and relaxing and well.... delicious!

Anyway, I'm completely exhausted, aching in most every joint and muscle in my body, and about to hit the bed!

Until next time...

I'm Too Old For This.

Date: 5/3/2013
Starting Weight: 205.4
Current Weight:??
Ultimate Goal: 160

With only 3 hours sleep, I hit the floor running at 6:30am. Not literally running... but doing cake.  I would never start my day literally running.  Ha!  I digress.  I tell you that to say this... I forgot to get on the scales.  I was way too tired for that anyway!

This afternoon, after the cakes were finished and delivered, I attempted to nap.  But the phone kept ringing, the kids kept asking questions and I just finally gave up.  Not long after that, Ashley messaged and asked if I wanted to walk.

I did... and I didn't.   I really wanted the exercise and the outside fresh air.. but I desperately needed a nap.  Ironically, having still not slept, it's now 11:40pm and I can't sleep so I'm writing this.

Anywho - I said yes, and Ashley and I walked 5 miles in an hour and 33 minutes.  It was chilly - and the wind was cutting - but it was great to get out.  I'm really glad we didn't attempt the C25K because last night, or rather this morning, around 2:30 am, I slipped and fell in my kitchen and around 3 this afternoon, I started to really hurt and get sore.

I think I caught myself with my hands/wrists on my right side.  My left ankle and hip is sore (the one that slipped out from under me) along with both wrists and my (bad) right shoulder.   Ugh.  I'm too old for this falling down business.  I'll be chugging down some ibuprofen in a minute - hoping it'll help me sleep and wake up feeling better!

Tomorrow morning is a 5K - but I'm not walking/jogging it because I'm the "race coordinator"... HA!  Funniest. Title. EVER..... for me.  I'm a mommy, wife, sister, daughter, math nerd, caker/baker, accountant, cook, laundress, and a million other things... but "run coordinator" is a joke in my mind.

Nevertheless, I've organized one as a fundraiser for our youth at church and tomorrow bright and early - we'll see if I can pull it off.  I should say "we" can pull it off because I've enlisted a bunch of friends and family to come and help me do it!  So, on that note, I'm gonna go try to sleep.  Six a.m. is gonna come quickly!

I know this post is all over the place, so I'm gonna quit now.  Until next time.
